We perform all major ASTM concrete moisture tests required by flooring manufacturers and installation specifications. pH and porosity testing are included at no extra charge with every moisture test.

ASTM F 2170 — Internal Probe Testing Most Common

Standard Test Method for Determining Relative Humidity (RH) in Concrete Floor Slabs Using In Situ Probes

  • Quantitative determination of percent relative humidity within a concrete slab.
  • The most common test method for measuring moisture content inside a concrete slab.
  • Requires 2 site visits:
    • Day 1: Drill a ¾″ diameter hole to 40% of slab depth and secure probe sleeve at each test location. Minimum 24 hours must pass before inserting probes.
    • Day 2: Insert probes, allow time to equilibrate, then record all readings.
ASTM F 1896 — Surface Moisture Testing Second Most Common

Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emissions Rate (MVER) of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride

  • Quantitative determination of the rate of moisture vapor emitted from a bare concrete floor.
  • Requires 3 site visits over 5 days:
    • Day 1: Remove any existing flooring and adhesive at each test site at least 24 hours before testing. (Skip if the concrete is already bare.)
    • Day 2: Lightly grind a 20″ × 20″ area and place MVER kits at each test site. Kits must remain completely undisturbed for a minimum of 60 hours and no more than 72 hours. It is imperative these kits remain undisturbed and uncompromised for the full duration.
    • Days 3 & 4: Kits remain in place.
    • Day 5: Retrieve kits and record results.
ASTM F 3191 — Porosity Testing Included Free

Standard Practice for Field Determination of Substrate Water Absorption (Porosity) for Substrates to Receive Resilient Flooring

  • Determines whether a substrate surface is porous or non-porous before resilient flooring installation.
  • A relatively new standard that is becoming increasingly common.
  • Included with all testing at no extra charge.
ASTM F 710 — pH Testing Included Free

Standard Practice for Preparing Concrete Floors to Receive Resilient Flooring

  • Determines the acceptability of a concrete floor surface for resilient flooring installation.
  • pH testing was removed from the current ASTM F 710 standard, but many flooring manufacturers still require it before installation.
  • Included with all testing at no extra charge.
ASTM F 2659 — Moisture Meter Testing On Request

Standard Guide for Preliminary Evaluation of Comparative Moisture Condition of Concrete, Gypsum Cement and Other Floor Slabs Using a Non-Destructive Electronic Moisture Meter

  • Completely non-destructive testing method.
  • Provides readings only to a depth of 0.5″–1″.
  • Available upon request.
